Rhenish Girls’ High School makes the smart (meter) move
With history dating back to 1860, Rhenish Girls’ High School has a proud history as the oldest girls’ school in South Africa.
Rhenish Girls’ High School aims to provide its learners with an education of the highest quality and is committed to providing an environment that is conducive to effective teaching and learning. All learners, regardless of their abilities and backgrounds, are encouraged to develop their full potential, to strive for excellence, and to become responsible, caring, and productive citizens.
The school is proactively seeking ways to become as clean and green as possible. Power-Star has installed two smart meters, one on the main electrical supply and the other on the hostel main breaker. The smart meters will be responsible for the energy measurement of the entire site. We digitally subtract the boarding house from the main feed to create “rest of the school”, thus providing Rhenish with three areas to understand and manage:
- Total Site,
- School, and
They will now be better equipped to identify where energy use is highest and what measures is most cost effective to reduce it. Using the built-in bill verification aspect of the Power-Star software they will be able to verify that they are billed correctly for electricity use. Over time they will have concrete data about their baseline energy usage that can be used in a solar energy feasibility study.
