Optimising energy consumption and lower costs.
Falke remains one of the textile industry leaders in South Africa. So, to remain competitive compared to imported products, the company embarked on a cost-saving initiative. One of the cost drivers was energy cost, with a specific focus on electricity. The process involved monthly site visits and discussions with key personnel who were made accountable for certain consumption areas.
The primary goal was to reduce energy costs. As there was little money available for large capital projects, the focus was on behavioural change.
- Air leak detection and fixing
- Optimising compressed air system
- Lighting load when not in use
- Weekend loads were reduced
June, July and August 2013 showed a 21% drop in kWh/per year-on-year.
